Elena Montañez

Elena Montañez, 72 of Tatum, New Mexico passed away October 27, 2025, surrounded by her family and loved ones. 

Mrs. Montañez was born August 11, 1953, to Remedios Calderon and Tomasa Gutierrez in Rosales, Chihuahua, Mexico. 

Visitation for Elena will be Friday, October 31, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Apostolic Assembly Church located at 1924 E Oak Street. Hobbs, New Mexico. 

Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, November 01, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Holy Rosary located at 610 W 2nd Street in Tatum, New Mexico with Father Samuel Ameh officiating. Cremation will take place at a later date. 

Elena is survived by her husband of 56 years: Salvador Montañez of Tatum, New Mexico. Three sons: Salvador Figueroa of Lovington, New Mexico. Jesse Figueroa of Tatum, New Mexico. Miguel Montañez of Enid, Oklahoma. Five daughters: Juana Aguirre of Hobbs. Laura Avila of Pampa, Texas. Maria Martinez of Lovington, New Mexico. Petra Diaz and Joanna Montañez both of Tatum, New Mexico. Sister: Rosa Imelda Calderon of Rosales, Mexico. Seven brothers: Remedios Gutierrez, Arturo Gutierrez, Eugenio Gutierrez, Pio Gutierrez, Francisco Gutierrez, and Miguel Gutierrez all of Rosales, Mexico. Jose Gutierrez of Plains, Texas. Twenty-two grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. 

Elena was preceded in death by her parents: Remedios and Tomasa Calderon. 

Services are under the direction of Calvary Memorial Funeral Home of Hobbs, New Mexico.
