Hortencia Dorothy Garcia

Hortencia "Dorothy" Garcia, age 84 of Hobbs, New Mexico passed away June 22, 2024 surrounded by her family and loved ones at Desert Spring Nursing Home. 

Ms. Garcia was born November 06, 1939 to Pedro Cortez and Fidela Cano in Eden, Texas. 

Visitation for Dorothy will be Thursday, June 27, 2024 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Calvary Memorial Funeral Home. A prayer vigil will recite at at 6 p.m. 

Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, June 28, 2024 at 10 a.m. at St. Helena Catholic Church with Father Joe Pacquing officiating. Committal burial will follow at Memory Garden Cemetery. 

Dorothy married Rudolph Garcia Sr. in 1957 in Eden, Texas. They had five children together. Dorothy worked at the Hobbs Senior Center with Meals-on-Wheels and retired after 20 years. After retirement, she decided to be a hospice caregiver for about 10 years. She attended St. Helena Catholic Church and was involved with Our Lady of Guadalupe "Las Guada-lupanas." She had a very nurturing and compassionate spirit. Dorothy was very generous and would give money and time away to anyone who was in need. 

Dorothy is survived by five children Rebecca Garcia, Rudolph Garcia Jr., Johnny Garcia all of Hobbs, New Mexico. Victor Garcia of Odessa, Texas. Anthony Garcia of Wichita Falls, Texas. Two sisters: Beatrice Bauldridge of Hobbs, New Mexico. Martha Roth of Phoenix, Arizona. Two brothers: Richard Cortez of Hobbs, New Mexico. Frank Cortez of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Fifteen grandchildren and thirty-six great grandchildren. 

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Rudolph Garcia Sr. Parents: Pedro and Fidela Cortez. Brother: Pedro Cortez Jr. Sister: Lidia Weld. Granddaughter: Natalie Garcia Rios. 

The family of Dorothy would like to thank Angela Garcia and crew at Twenty8 Snowcones in Hobbs and the community for conducting a successful fundraiser to help pay for the burial expenses.
