Kenneth M. Smith, 92, of Hobbs, New Mexico passed away on Friday, June 14, 2024, at his residence in Hobbs, New Mexico. He was born April 6, 1932, in Oak Grove, Louisiana, where he grew up on the family farm.
He served in the Air Force from 1950-1954, during the Korean war as a gunner on a B-29. He was stationed in several places, including Italy, Greece and Libya. He loved telling stories of his adventures while in the service, along with stories of growing up on the farm.
He moved to Lake Jackson, Texas in 1962 to work and retire from Dow Chemical Company in 1984. During this time, he met the love of his life, Dollie Ann (Angie) Price. They married on June 6, 1962. He was also the restaurant owner of Angie’s Train Stop, alongside his wife, in Angleton, Texas. They were married for 53 years, up until her death on February 16, 2016.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, Burl and Tonka Smith, his brothers; Willie Smith and Don Smith and his sister Rose Hampton.
He is survived by a daughter, Kallene Smith; grand-son, Trey Stewart and his wife, Marby Stewart, great-grand-daughter, Aurora Stewart, great-grand-son Kai Stewart; grand-daughters, Angelena and Valerie Vazquez; sister-n-law, Doris Jenkins; nieces, Sherryl Collard, Kristie Davis and Sharon Ward; Nephews, Jimmy Thompson, David and Bruce Hampton, Glenn Smith, and CJ and Jessee Price; many great nieces and nephews, many dear friends including Robert Shaw for over 60 years and Mariellen Overly for over 40 years.
His wishes were to be cremated, with ½ of his ashes being buried with his beloved wife, which will take place during Thanksgiving week. And the other ½ sprinkled on the Smith Farm in Oak Grove, Louisiana. More details will be announced later.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Trey Stewart, Dustin Harrel, Colin Dutton, Roger McLaughlin, David and Bruce Hampton, Gregg Ward, Glenn Smith, Chris Edmonson and Jimmy Harris.
