Margaret was born on May 22, 1928. She passed away peacefully in her home in Eunice on October 21, 2022 surrounded by four generations of her family. She was 94 and had been struggling with heart and kidney disease.
She was born in Caddo, Texas to James Monroe Whitley and Katy Boatwright Whitley. At the age of fourteen her family moved to Hamlin, Texas where she thoroughly enjoyed attending school and going to church where she later met the love of her life, George W. Braggs. They were married in Anson, Texas on January 19, 1946. After sixty-two years of what seemed like an “Ozzy and Harriet TV” marriage, George passed away on June 12, 2008. George and Margaret had two children and wandered around the Midland, Texas area trying to find work in the oil fields. They eventually settled in Eunice where George got a job as a contract pumper and later went to work for and retired from Anadarko Oil Company.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother and two sisters and a grandson.
She leaves behind children, James K. Braggs (wife Karen) and Sharon J. Braggs (cohort Bill Downer), five grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren. Margaret was a hard worker, great cook, and an excellent seamstress. She loved to garden and was a wonderful mother loved by many. She will be sorely missed.
A viewing will be held from 6-8 pm on October 31 at the Calvary Funeral Home in Eunice. Grave-side services will be held at 11:00 am on November 1 at the Brunson Memorial Cemetery south of Eunice
