Rickey Joe Miller, known affectionately as Rick or “Crazy Rick”, passed away on June 10, 2024, in Alamogordo, NM. Born on April 2, 1961, in Mt. Carmel, IL.
Rick grew up in a lively household and later graduated from Hobbs High School in 1979 before furthering his education at New Mexico Junior College.
Rick's life was marked by his fun, energetic nature with an infectious personality that left no room for strangers. He was deeply admired for his innate ability to make everyone feel at ease and accepted. Rick loved his time coaching on the ball field, teaching his children and grandchildren to swim, and innovating and playing games with family and friends, always with the aim of guiding and encouraging others. A devoted Denver Broncos fan and active member of the USSSA, Rick found joy and camaraderie in sports, whether it was cheering on his favorite team or participating in community sports events.
Rick is survived by his loving children, Amy Hanker and husband Keith, Erika Miller and partner Josh, Derek Joshua Miller, Ariel Jolyn Miller, and Rikki Lerke and husband Jordon; grandchildren, Tayler Miller and partner Izaiah, Kassandra, DeShawn Dreikosen, Rylan Hanker, Kaedyn Hanker, Shaylee Weaver, Braedyn Weaver, Amelia McKelvy, Mason Lerke, Nevaeh McKelvy, and Kenji Lerke; great-grandchild, Aliyah Miller-Lyons; and siblings, Larry Ray Miller, Kay Trevino and husband Tommy, Christina Miller Jones and husband Michael, Sandra Gail Miller, and Valerie Sue Miller. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and a host of friends who will miss him dearly.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Etta and Larry Miller, and nephew Christopher Scott Dalton.
A memorial service will be held in honor and to celebrate Rick's life will be held at Calvary Memorial Funeral Home, July 13, 2024, at 10 am.
Rick's life was a testament to joy, resilience, and the power of community, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him. The family would like to honor Rick by wearing Denver Bronco sports attire. Please feel free to join us in celebrating Rick by wearing your orange and blue.
