 Stevie "Steve" Earl Smith, 64 of Lubbock, Texas passed away February 13, 2025, at Covenant Medical Center surrounded by his family and loved ones. 

Mr. Smith was born May 18, 1960 to Tee Smith and Ella Brooks in Hobbs, New Mexico. 

Visitation for Steve will be on Friday, February 28, 2025, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Calvary Memorial Funeral Home. 

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 01, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Jefferson St. Church of Christ with Joe Cotton officiating. Committal burial will follow at Prairie Haven Memorial Park. 

Stevie is survived by his daughters: Valeria L Smith, Evalise Nieves, and Alivia C Gilbert-Smith. Stepson: Ardis R Davis Jr. Grandsons: Alijah C Landrum-Smith, and Sekai Nieves. Step-grandson: Ardis R Davis Jr. Siblings: Mike (Soraya) Smith, Kenny Smith,Timmy (Bobble) Smith, Patrick Smith, Carl (Carla) Smith, Chris (Mona Lisa ) Smith, Ruby Smith, Sharon Smith, and Sherry Smith. Cousin/Brothers: Tony (Deborah) Benford, Kermit (Delicissia) Brooks, Dedrick (Cynthia) Brooks. Stepmother: Amilya Smith. Sisters in Love & Friends: Alexandria Norwood, Nury Pando, Dianne Davis, Lexi Gilbert, and Deedra Egans. Steve was preceded in death by his father: Tee Smith. Mother: Ella Brooks. Stepfather: Arnett Lavow Sr. Sister: Cynthia Smith. Maternal grandparents: Manuel and Eula Evans. Paternal grandmother: Susan Malone. Niece: April Bailey. Two aunts: JoAnn Thomas and Esther Brooks. Three cousins: Vanessa Thompson, Rita Benford, and Romana Gaston.

Steve gave his life to Christ at a young age growing up at Little Zion Baptist Church Hobbs, NM and later as a teenager baptized under the late Brother Robert L James at Scharbauer Street Church of Christ in Hobbs, NM. Over the years attending Church of Christ in Lubbock, TX and Denver, CO. He also grew up and attended school at Booker T Washington, Edison Elementary, Houston Jr High School, Hobbs High School, and Texas Tech University were he received a four year basketball scholarship upon being recruited by Assistant Basketball Coach Cousin (Uncle) Rob Evans and still hold the top number 10 basketball record of most steals in 1981-82 of 53 steals at TTU. He enjoyed living in Colorado with many friends and family until he became ill.He was just a “Big Teddy Bear of Love” with a caring,giving , and sharing heart, love for family and friends. He spent the majority of his life working with juveniles and children with disabilities. He loved basketball was great player throughout his and a great fan of Golden Warrior’s “ Steph Curry”. He was known for comedic style of keeping his family and friends laughing but a firm man in knowing who was a true friend who was not a true friend.
